Accepting these terms

By using this website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. We may change these terms; material changes will be announced by updating the date at the top of this page, and continuing to use the site after that constitutes acceptance.

Your account

An account is free, and needed only to download packages. You are responsible for the email address you register and for anything done through your account. Sign-in links are sent to that address and act as credentials — treat them as you would a password, and do not forward them.

You may delete your account at any time from your account page. We may suspend or remove an account that is used to abuse the service, and will say why if we do.

Software licensing

These terms do not grant you any rights to the software. Each component is licensed separately, and its own licence governs what you may do with it. Downloading a package from this site does not change or extend that licence.

  • VIACERTO Connect is released under the GNU General Public License. Linking it into your own software has consequences for how that software may be distributed — read the licence.
  • VIACERTO Kernel and VIACERTO Bus are source-available. The source is published and free to use for education, research, open-source projects, evaluation and prototyping. Commercial use requires a separate licence, which you can enquire about at contact@viacerto.com.

See licensing for an overview, and the licence file accompanying each component for the terms that actually apply.

No warranty

The software and this website are provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software is free of defects or that it will meet your requirements.

Safety-critical and regulated use

This deserves its own section because of what these components are for.

The software is not certified, qualified or approved for use in safety-critical, life-supporting, life-sustaining or otherwise regulated systems. Nothing published here — including any reference to a standard such as IEC 62304, IEC 61508 or ISO 14971 — constitutes certification, qualification evidence, or a representation that the software satisfies any standard.

If you intend to use these components in a medical device, an industrial safety function, or any system where failure could cause injury, death, or serious property or environmental damage, you remain solely responsible for the qualification, verification, validation and regulatory approval of your product. Talk to us first — that conversation is precisely what our commercial licensing and consulting exist for.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, VIACERTO LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data or use, arising out of or relating to the software or this website, however caused and on any theory of liability.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim — which, for software obtained at no cost, is nothing.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to the fullest extent permitted, and nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, where the law does not permit that limitation.

Export controls

The software is subject to United States export control law and to the export and import laws of other countries. You agree not to export, re-export or transfer it in violation of those laws, including to any embargoed destination or to any person on a restricted-party list.

TODO — export classification for components containing cryptography must be determined before those components are published.

Acceptable use

Do not use this site to break the law, to interfere with its operation or security, to gain unauthorised access to any part of it, or to collect other people’s data. Automated access is fine in moderation; hammering the site is not.

Intellectual property

The content of this website — text, layout, design and marks — belongs to VIACERTO LLC. The software published through it is governed by its own licence, which grants rights this notice does not, and which takes precedence for the software it covers.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory rules of your own country.
